Legal Malpractice

Seeking Compensation for Damages Caused by Legal Malpractice

Did your attorney miss the deadline for filing your claim? Did your lawyer's mistake cause you to lose your lawsuit? Have you lost money because of legal malpractice?

Attorneys have a duty to protect and zealously advocate for their client's best interests. If your lawyer's negligence or violation of professional standards of conduct resulted in direct financial harm, you may have a claim for legal malpractice.

At Miller Cohen, P.L.C., we represent clients who have been harmed by attorney misconduct or legal malpractice. Contact our Detroit law firm to schedule a free consultation with one of our experienced trial lawyers to determine if you have a legal malpractice claim against your attorney.

Elements of a Successful Legal Malpractice Case

In order to win a legal malpractice case, you must show that:

  • Your attorney committed malpractice
  • That the malpractice caused your damages, i.e. you would have won your case if not for the legal malpractice
  • You sustained damages because of the negligence or misconduct of your attorney

Generally, a lawyer's error in judgment, which was made in good faith, is not considered malpractice.
