Miller Cohen, PLC is proud to welcome Judith Champa to its team of dedicated lawyers striving to protect working people.
Judy gained extensive experience in matters of labor and employment law working at the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) in Detroit, where she handled union representation matters and investigated and litigated numerous charges of unfair labor practices. Judy also spent time at the NLRB’s headquarters in Washington, D.C. through the Agency’s professional exchange program.
“Judy adds strength to our labor and employment law practice, said Bruce Miller, founding partner of Miller Cohen, PLC. “She not only knows her stuff, she is also a very considerate person.”
Judy is a graduate of Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti and Wayne State University Law School in Detroit, obtaining her Juris Doctor cum laude, with honors in legal research and writing. Judy comes from a family of dedicated union members, including many teachers, and her grandfather was a lifelong member of the Teamsters, retiring as a truck driver. She is dedicated to union and employee side employment and labor law matters, and employee and individual rights.
During her tenure at the NLRB, Judy was elected president of the local union for NLRB employees, representing both professional employees and support staff working out of the Detroit office. This experience gave her a firsthand perspective of the challenges of securing fair representation and working conditions for her fellow workers, which will greatly benefit the firm’s many union clients. She has also written for the Michigan Bar Journal about developments in NLRB law pertaining to social media and other electronic forms of communication, which the NLRB considers protected, concerted activity by workers. Judy’s knowledge in this rapidly growing area of employment law will make her a valuable asset to Miller Cohen’s team.
