Biography
Kathleen comes from a family with strong union roots, instilling in her a commitment to empathy, fairness, and advocacy for others. She pursued a double major in History and Spanish at Albion College, including a semester on the US/Mexico border where she aided migrants. After graduating, she attended the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law and interned at the Immigration Law Clinic as well as the Veterans Law Clinic and the Attorney Grievance Commission.
As an attorney at Lakeshore Legal Aid, Kathleen worked tirelessly to ensure equal access to legal assistance, regardless of financial means. She focused on a variety of legal matters, including landlord/tenant disputes, family law, consumer rights, social security, public benefits, and unemployment. She was also an Ombudsman for the MI Health Link Ombudsman Program (MHLO) and the MI Choice, CTS, and PACE Ombudsman Program (MICPOP). As an Ombudsman, she helped beneficiaries in various Medicaid programs navigate complex healthcare systems so they could access quality care. Kathleen was also proud to serve on the bargaining committee during the unionization movement at Lakeshore, ultimately becoming a union steward.
At Miller Cohen, Kathleen is focusing her legal expertise on Employment and Labor law.
