Information About FMLA

The Family and Medical Leave Act allows an employee up to twelve weeks of unpaid leave time for medical purposes, such as:

  • Pregnancy or birth of a child
  • Serious health condition
  • Care of an immediate family member with a serious health condition

Employers must not interfere with an eligible employee’s right to take leave and may not retaliate against workers utilizing FMLA leave time. Instead, the employer must hold the position for the employee during the 12 weeks.
